"It is the evening of the day
I sit and watch the children play
Smiling faces I can see
But not for me
I sit and watch
As tears go by"

Scarlet Tanager, Bird Watching, Watercolor Paintings of Birds

I was never interested in birds until I joined a bird-watching walk one day at the Huntington Library Botanical Garden in San Marino, CA. Looking through the binoculars, I was amazed by how beautiful, how colorful the birds were and yet how different they looked. Since then, I have paid more attention to birds and listened to their sounds carefully every time I hike in nature. To help myself identify different kinds of birds, I have started to paint them. Like flowers, birds bring me lots of joy.

* The bird in this painting is male. The female scarlet tanager has an olive green to yellow body.

On the Plus Side

I believe that one's intention defines one's reality. On the first day of 2010, I've decided to practice positive thinking by writing down at least one thing a day that makes me happy.

It's a wonderful day in Pasadena, the sky is clear, the weather is warm and the neighborhood streets are quiet. My husband and I went out for a bike ride. The exercise made me feel stronger and more energetic. I look forward to the next ride soon.
