I was never interested in birds until I joined a bird-watching walk one day at the Huntington Library Botanical Garden in San Marino, CA. Looking through the binoculars, I was amazed by how beautiful, how colorful the birds were and yet how different they looked. Since then, I have paid more attention to birds and listened to their sounds carefully every time I hike in nature. To help myself identify different kinds of birds, I have started to paint them. Like flowers, birds bring me lots of joy.
* The bird in this painting is male. The female scarlet tanager has an olive green to yellow body.
